🔎 NeuroMed Success Stories — Case Studies

Adan G.
Adan G.
Adan is 52 year-old a web developer who had struggled with tinnitus for over 5 years. His tinnitus was around for much longer, but it really started to become an issue when he started his own marketing company.

His first couple of years, he went through the usual routine of asking his doctor what to do (who told him “there’s not much we can do about tinnitus”) and trying a few supplemental remedies (which did nothing to help).

In his third year, Adan went to see an ENT specialist that did not do much for him save refer him to the audiology clinic. The audiologist recommended that he try using an ear-level tinnitus masking (they look like hearing aids). He had very mild hearing loss, but they thought the slight amplification would help. They were $1800. Adan noted that while having the maskers helped a little, they were annoying at times as well. He returned them and the tinnitus problem remained.

Frustrated with the results he was getting, his audiologist recommended the Lenire device, which combines sound therapy with a tongue stimulator. This intervention set him back $5000. He listened to it religiously for 30 minutes twice a day and he was still having flare ups. The time commitment and inconsistent results led him to abandon use of the device after a couple of months—a sunk cost he never recovered.

Adan finally came to NeuroMed. There were some things that he learned about his tinnitus which immediately made sense, like the connection between his tinnitus flare ups and certain triggers. He agreed to start the protocol used at NeuroMed and within the first month, he noted dramatic improvement.

Adan’s tinnitus continued to improve in the coming weeks. He started noticing that he wasn’t thinking about his tinnitus as much, for several days at a time in fact. If he did get the occasional flare up, he was able to easily identify the cause and take corrective measures. On graduating the program, Adan finally broke free from the tinnitus problem.
Belinda W.
Belinda W.
Belinda is a 53 year-old attorney who has struggled with tinnitus for years. She first noticed tinnitus after some loud concerts when she was younger, but as she got older and started to lose some hearing, the problem became progressively worse.

Over the past ten years, she explored the full spectrum of alternative therapies for tinnitus including acupuncture, chiropractic care, stem cell treatment, and various alternative therapies, all with no positive benefit. She had also purchased the Neosensory bimodal stimulation device. It combined sound with a wrist stimulator and did nothing for her tinnitus. But things were about to get worse. A couple of months before she came to NeuroMed, Belinda was in a desperate state. After getting the COVID vaccine, her symptoms went from mild-to-moderate to constant and severe. Her tinnitus has reached a point where it disrupted her daily life, overpowering her attention even in loud environments like planes or restaurants.

A key turning point for Belinda came when she started the multimodal treatment protocol at NeuroMed. Within 6 weeks of starting the prescription medication portion of the program, she found a dose that helped lower her severe-to-catastrophic tinnitus to mild-to-moderate tinnitus. She started to make significant gains using the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy portion of the program, integrating the work into her daily living. She also found ways to calm the tinnitus using mindfulness techniques.

When she completed the program, Belinda had an entirely new experience with her tinnitus. She could still hear the tinnitus if she thought about it, but most of the time it was like it wasn’t there. If her tinnitus acted up, she knew exactly what to do and what measures to take. Belinda was happy to tell us that finally, she feels in control of her tinnitus, not the other way around.
Joseph H.
Joseph H.
Joseph is a 34 year old nutritionist. His tinnitus is on the right side only and came on after bursting his eardrum from a diving accident. Since then, it's not just the constant ringing that bothers him, but the feeling that he experiences the world lop-sided.

Being a health professional, he knew that most of the supposed supplement “cures” were based on bogus claims—but out of desperation, tried them anyway. He searched diligently in the medical literature to find out the reason why his ringing was loud. He didn’t want to be told that the loudness was “just in his head”.

Joseph came to NeuroMed after hearing about research on the medications being used by Dr. Djaliian in the clinical trials at the University of California, Irvine. We explained to him that while the protocol calls for medicine, the other parts of the program, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), sound therapy, and certain lifestyle changes were equally important.

At first, it was tough to convince Joseph that the protocol used at NeuroMed was worth trying and it was another 6 months before we heard from him again. After further research, he concluded that our program made the most sense and was based on scientific evidence, so he decided to give it a try.

Despite his initial reluctance, Joseph was a model patient and found significant relief after just 5 weeks in the program. He went only up to the smallest dose of medication, but it was enough to stop the loud ringing.

He said his skepticism about CBT was unfounded and it turned out to be one of the things that helped him the most. His consultation with the nutrition coach revealed some key triggers he was unaware of and this change made a drastic difference. He found the nagging presence of his tinnitus slowly faded away.

Joseph reported to us that his greatest benefit was the restored sensation of balance, where the ringing no longer defined how he experienced the world. He said that for the first time since the accident, he feels he has his life back again.
Melissa C.
Melissa C.
Melissa is a 46 year old marketing executive. Her tinnitus has gotten worse over the past two years, making social activities annoying and disrupting any downtime she had. Her tinnitus sometimes triggered migraine headaches, which she had not had for years. She even suspected that her tinnitus contributed to her divorce, as her partner just couldn’t understand what the “big deal” was.

She went to an ENT doctor who said most treatment options don’t work, but recommended she try antidepressant therapy. After starting medications, she did note an improvement in her overall mood, but the tinnitus never resolved and they made her feel weird so she stopped them. She tried some other treatments like the Cortexi herbal drops, but these were utterly worthless and actually made her mad at herself for falling for a scam.

She decided to go for a second opinion and that is when she came to NeuroMed. One key takeaway from the first visit was that she saw that her tinnitus problems coincided with the onset of migraine-like brain symptoms in a way nobody had explained to her before.

She was disappointed to hear that antidepressants are used in some patients, but we explained that the doses used are much lower than are used for depression and that they’re used for a completely different purpose and in a completely different way. Equally important, she was relieved they were not meant to be “forever medications”, but that most patients taper off of the medications in a matter of months. Convinced, she decided to give the protocol at NeuroMed a try.

At first, there was a little bit of information overload, but she soon realized that there was a lot of repetition and reinforcement. Also, it wasn’t just information, she was meeting with someone on a weekly basis in the beginning, and this human element made all of the difference. Regular contact with her team provided the critical support she needed to stay motivated and put one foot in front of the other.

She also was pleased to find that only a very low dose of medication was needed to balance out her system and actually lower the intensity of the tinnitus. It didn’t make her feel weird like she had feared, but instead was just the little bit of edge she needed for her brain to calm down and stay balanced.

It took Mellisa nearly a month to get all of the aspects of the rehabilitation program going, but once everything was in place, her tinnitus awareness started to drop dramatically. The grating, annoying sound was gone.

And with the improved relief from her tinnitus, she started to be able to socialize and enjoy her down time again. Melissa said the best part of the program was having a white-glove experience with the providers and that this one-on-one support was what empowered her to succeed in the program.
Ruth P.
Ruth P.
Ruth is a 64-year-old with a history of fluctuating loud tinnitus for over 10 years. She had tried a variety of over-the-counter supplements. Specifically, she had tried Lipo flavonoids that were recommended by her ENT doctor, Cortexi that she had found on a Facebook ad, and a few other supplements she had found on the shelf at CVS.

She had previously tried a white noise machine and a small desktop water fountain at work. Neither of these interventions had helped her (and actually annoyed her).

She finally got to the point where it was clear she needed professional help.

She saw her local audiologist, who gave her combination hearing aid/masker devices. She tried those for four weeks, but did not like the sensation of having something in her ear all the time, and just like with the other forms of sound therapy, it annoyed her and sometimes made her tinnitus worse and reactive.

She was now determined, on a quest to find an answer. Prior to the arrival of Lenire on the US market, Ruth flew to Ireland to get the Lenire device. She used it religiously for the three months but again not only had no relief, but learned that the sound-based treatment made things worse. She began to feel increasingly depressed. Each time she tried to explain that sound therapy was making her tinnitus worse, her concerns were brushed aside. The repeated dismissal left her feeling gaslit — as if her worsening symptoms were being blamed on her mindset instead of being taken seriously. She felt unheard, invalidated, and increasingly isolated in her experience. It was at this point that she came to NeuroMed. This was the first time anybody explained that she had “reactive tinnitus” and that sound therapy was bound to trigger—not help—her symptoms.

She also learned that her tinnitus was related to an underlying condition of the brain that acts like a migraine. It had specific triggers, with sound being one of them. Some other symptoms she thought were totally unrelated, like her sinus pressure headaches, ear fullness, and neck stiffness, were likely all connected to the same problem. She finally felt heard and was glad to start the program.

She was not crazy about the idea of medications, but at this point, was willing to try anything and she was comforted by the fact that she was working with a medical team that understood her symptoms. She also heard numerous testimonials of patients who felt the same way and did great, and this gave her the courage to move forward.

Ruth started to put all of the pieces together with the help of the team. Having regular weekly visits in the beginning was key to helping her sort out all of the non-medication portions of the program. By her fourth week, she had noticed that she had some days where the tinnitus was quieter. She was not completely better, but she knew she was on the right track.

The non-medication portions of the protocol were equally important to the meds for Ruth. Using a careful analysis of her diet and sleep, her team was able to identify the food items and sleep issues that were triggering the bad days. She told us that identifying her triggers was the breakthrough moment when she finally started to believe she could get better.

For Ruth, it took the entire 20 weeks to fully recover, but she was delighted at the person she became—she was back to her former self again. The unexpected benefits of the program came from the mindfulness practice she cultivated with her team. This restored her sense of calm, peace, and joy, something she lost forever. She was incredibly grateful to the team and has since sent several friends to NeuroMed for treatment.
Nick N.
Nick N.
Nick is a 35-year-old software engineer who presented with intermittent tinnitus over the past five years. He would develop tinnitus five days a week, which lasted approximately 7 to 8 hours, and was rated a 6–7/10.

His hearing test was normal and he had already seen a previous ear specialist, who told him that there was nothing to do. His general doctor suggested a trial Xanax. While this seemed to take the edge off a little, it didn’t affect his tinnitus loudness. And besides, he didn’t like the way he felt on Xanax and certainly didn’t want to get “hooked”.

Nick saw ads for the Lenire device Google and Facebook, and paid nearly $5000 to try it after accounting for all expenses. Despite his high hopes and wishing that he felt something, when he got honest with himself, he could admit it basically did nothing to help.

After failing to improve with Lenire, he began to lose hope. Though he continued searching for answers, the experience had shattered his trust — especially after believing the promises made about the device. If anything, his tinnitus seemed to be getting worse.

Nick had always approached problems with a logical, solution-oriented mindset, but this was starting to feel like an impossible situation with no end in sight. Was he going to feel this way for the rest of his life?

Nick began spending more time on tinnitus message boards like Reddit, searching for anything that might help. In one of the threads, he came across Dr. Djalilian’s research on the underlying cause of loud tinnitus and its potential treatment. While the forums were often filled with negativity, something about the migraine theory resonated — it aligned closely with his own symptoms. He decided to ignore the haters and call for an interview.

As soon as Nick began speaking with the team, he knew he was in the right place. For the first time, he was talking to people who not only understood his symptoms, but could clearly explain what was happening — and what it would take to fully recover.

He signed up shortly after and was open to trying all of the interventions that were recommended. He aligned fully with the philosophy of using a multimodal approach, even though he had some hesitation about trying another medication from the antidepressant class. The NeuroMed team reassured him that these medications were used at very low doses — often sub-therapeutic for mood — and that while he might not feel much directly, they would be working quietly in the background to support his recovery.

By the fourth week, he had identified and eliminated nearly half of his triggers, which reduced his episodic tinnitus from four to five days a week down to just once a week. He began seriously tracking his patterns and working toward long-term management.

The biggest surprise, however, was the impact of the CBT program. He had assumed it was all about loudness — that the mind played no role. But the program helped him uncover cognitive distortions that had been quietly working against him. As he began to challenge and shift those thought patterns, something changed: the grip tinnitus had on his outlook started to break. For the first time in a long while, he felt genuinely happy again.

By the time he graduated, Nick had transformed not only his symptoms, but his entire relationship with tinnitus. He left the program feeling in control, optimistic about the future, and deeply grateful that he had found an approach that works.

I went to an ENT because the ringing in my ears had been going on for several years and was starting to be very annoying. The doctor said that I would just have to live with the ringing and use white noise.

I came across the Neuromed site, listened to the introductory video, and after talking with John decided to give this a try, and I am so glad I did.

I know that I won’t ever be free from the ringing in my ears, but I have the tools (meds, nutritional tips, mental health with meditation, sound therapy, etc) to go days without even thinking about the ringing in my ears.

I would recommend this program if you are willing to put in the time. Thank you to everyone that has helped me make life happier.

I came into Neuromed without having high expectations, but the program actually helped lower my Tinnitus symptoms significantly through a combination of diet, sound therapy, CBT, and medication. While it takes a lot of work…I can still highly recommend this program.

Dr. Hamid Djalilian and his team at Neuromed are a rare find in the world of ENT care. They offer a truly comprehensive approach to managing tinnitus and hyperacusis.

I suffered an acoustic trauma two years ago in a night club and went home with lasting bilateral tinnitus and right-ear hyperacusis.

All at age 30.

Both conditions are very stubborn, difficult to treat, and have had a negative impact on my quality of life.

I avoid the concerts and crowded bars and venues I once loved because I feel very physically uncomfortable in them these days, and/or experience a worsening of my symptoms and a “hangover from sound.”

I waited months to see a neurotologist at Johns Hopkins. In a 15-minute appointment, the doctor inspected my eardrum before recommending that I wear ear plugs, which I was already doing.

Ear plugs would relieve the right ear hyperacusis but exacerbate the ringing sound in my head.

They also caused my sound tolerance to lower further than I thought possible.

I couldn’t win.

I found out about Neuromed at a time when I felt defeated and was suffering greatly.

I began to develop migraine around this same time, with shoulder and neck pain, facial pain on the right side of my head, light sensitivity and floaters in my vision.

Unlike many ENTs who dismiss these conditions or know nothing about them, Dr. Djalilian’s Neuromed team helped me connect the dots.

I likely suffered a peripheral neural injury at that night club, and in its wake suffered a cascade of inflammation and some nasty neurological effects.

The Neuromed team takes the time to address the full picture, focusing on sleep, nutrition, sound therapy, and both preventative and rescue medications to help manage difficult episodes and flare-ups.

Their thoughtful, patient-centered care has made a real difference for me. I’m grateful to have found a team that actually understands and takes tinnitus seriously. The program has also made it super convenient to receive treatment virtually in Texas.

While I and many patients anxiously await a cure for hearing loss and related auditory conditions like tinnitus and hyperacusis, I am comforted that Dr. Djalilian is working behind the scenes on the research while his Neuromed Clinic offers relief and hope for those suffering.

My experience with the NeuroMed Tinnitus Clinic and program was nothing but positive. The team of professionals are all very knowledgeable and friendly. I had tried other OTC Tinnitus treatments prior to this program with no success. The multimodal approach NeuroMed takes creates a constant positive path towards healing. It definitely takes commitment to stick with it but pretty soon you realize how much healthier a lifestyle you have just by following the program. This program isn’t a magic pill in a bottle but if you are willing to make some pretty minor lifestyle changes it can drastically improve quality of life.

I experienced the sudden onset of tinnitus and had explored all other avenues with my doctor, ENT, and endocrinologist, all of which said they could not find anything wrong or provide any additional relief. The multi-prong approach from NeuroMed has been very beneficial and the tinnitus impact on my daily life has been reduced to almost nothing. The personnel who assisted me including the nutritionist and wellness coaches in addition to the doctor and program coordinator were all very helpful. I was a little skeptical when I began the program but their approach provided significant benefit for me. The remote medicine approach for this program worked very well with my schedule.

After suffering from almost 3 years of chronic tinnitus, I found NeroMed online when I saw a video of Dr.Djalilian explaining the theory behind the plan. I am to say that it worked for me and my T distress is mostly gone and most days I hear my T very little. I recommend the program for anyone suffering with tinnitus.

About two months ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with a loud ringing in my ears. I had experienced some ringing, but this was off the charts. After many days of searching and sleepless nights, I found Neuromed. I spoke with John, who does their intake, and he gave me the options, told me the costs, and we set up another appointment. In the time between, I have discovered some of my triggers and ways to deal with the tinnitus. This self-discovery has been empowering, inspiring me to take control of my health. When I spoke to John about this, he was supportive, gave me options, and answered my questions. After thoroughly researching various products and options, I will be going back to Neuromed as I see their holistic approach as something that will work. I have implemented some of the stuff I have read on their diet and sleep website and found it to help me on the right path. I am working on some other medical problems locally with my physician. Once those are taken care of, I will go back to Neourmed if needed to have them help me gain control of my life.

We are proud to announce that our success rate is 85-90% in reducing the volume of tinnitus and resolving or nearly resolving the “bad” tinnitus days.

If you’re here, you’ve likely learned the hard way that there is no “quick fix” for tinnitus. Our program is based on advanced neuroscience designed to change the neural networks in your brain. The simple fact is that this takes time to achieve. That being said, our program does “cure” tinnitus in the sense that you will find relief and get back to the good life. Our goal is to eliminate or significantly reduce the bad (loud) tinnitus and reach a place where if someone asks if you have tinnitus, you would have to think about it and listen for it to hear it and otherwise, it wouldn’t be noticeable during the day.

Our program is the most comprehensive approach to treating tinnitus available. After 20 years of tinnitus research, Dr. Djalilian has discovered the reason tinnitus becomes loud and bothersome in people. Treating the process that causes the tinnitus to become loud and bothersome leads to significant improvement of the tinnitus to a point where it is not noticeable during the day. This requires addressing the multitude of triggers for tinnitus, using nutraceuticals and medications when needed, and using internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy and sound therapy.

Yes! Our success rates prove that we can help tinnitus patients based on clinical results of the thousands of patients who have seen Dr. Djalilian at his academic practice center.

No! There has been tremendous progress in research on tinnitus in the last few years. We now understand that tinnitus becomes loud and bothersome due to processes in the brain. Dr. Djalilian has identified those causes and has been successfully treating tinnitus with this new treatment regimen. From the time a new treatment is discovered until it is practiced by 50% of physicians, it takes 17 years on average. Fortunately, you are finding out about this in the early stages. Dr. Djalilian is lecturing worldwide on the treatment of tinnitus and is writing a book on this novel treatment regimen.

We currently operate in 23 states and are expanding rapidly to cover all 50 states in the nation.
